In environmentally friendly water treatment products, magnesium oxide (MgO) is widely used in processes such as neutralizing acidic wastewater, precipitating heavy metal ions, denitrification, and phosphorus removal due to its excellent alkaline properties and reactivity. The following are detailed indicators of magnesium oxide for water treatment applications:

1. Chemical composition

·Magnesium oxide content (MgO): ≥ 92% -98%

For water treatment applications, the purity of magnesium oxide is usually required to be above 92%. High purity magnesium oxide can ensure effective neutralization and precipitation effects.

·Calcium oxide (CaO) content: ≤ 1.0% -2.0%

The content of calcium oxide should be kept as low as possible to reduce the generation of insoluble by-products in water and avoid affecting the treatment effect.

·Silicon dioxide (SiO2) content: ≤ 1.0% -1.5%

Low silica content can reduce the formation of insoluble impurities during water treatment, ensuring the cleanliness and effectiveness of the treatment process.

·Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) content: ≤ 0.5% -1.0%

Low alumina content helps to avoid affecting the reaction performance and water treatment efficiency of magnesium oxide.

·Iron oxide (Fe2O3) content: ≤ 0.3% -0.5%

Low control of iron oxide content to prevent color pollution and other adverse reactions.

2. Physical characteristics

·Granularity

Fineness (200 mesh pass rate): ≥ 95%

D50 particle size: 3-8 μ m

In water treatment applications, smaller particle sizes help improve the dispersibility and reaction rate of magnesium oxide, ensuring its maximum effectiveness in a short period of time.

·Specific surface area: 15-30 m ²/g

The larger specific surface area improves the reaction efficiency of magnesium oxide, especially in adsorbing heavy metal ions and neutralizing acidic water bodies.

·Whiteness: Usually no special requirements

Whiteness is not a key indicator in water treatment applications, but rather focuses on its chemical reactivity.

3. Moisture and other impurities

·Moisture content: ≤ 0.3% -0.5%

Low moisture content helps prevent magnesium oxide from clumping during storage and use, while maintaining its good reactivity.

·Loss on Ignition (LOI): ≤ 2.0% -4.0%

The low loss on ignition indicates that magnesium oxide has high stability and purity, ensuring stable reaction effects in water treatment.

4. Activated magnesium oxide

·Active magnesium oxide content: ≥ 70%

High activity magnesium oxide can react rapidly in water treatment, neutralize acidic wastewater, and effectively precipitate heavy metal ions.

5. Solubility

·Dissolution rate: high

Rapid dissolution is an important factor in ensuring the rapid neutralization reaction and precipitation of magnesium oxide in the water treatment process. The dissolution rate is usually required to be high in order to complete the treatment in a short period of time.

6. pH value

·PH value: 10-11

A high pH value ensures the efficiency of magnesium oxide in neutralizing acidic water bodies, while also providing suitable conditions for the precipitation of heavy metal ions.

7. Heavy metal content

·Heavy metal content (such as Pb, As, Cd): ≤ 0.001% -0.002%

For environmentally friendly water treatment products, the heavy metal content in magnesium oxide must be strictly controlled to avoid secondary pollution and ensure the environmental friendliness of the treatment process.
